Roof blown off of Edgewater home by tornado

The homeowner told WUSA9 that the house will likely have to be demolished due to the damage.

EDGEWATER, Md. — The roof of a home in Edgewater was blown off by a tornado Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado was seen in Anne Arundel County just after 2 p.m.

Portions of the roof and porch of the house lay in the yard and pond behind the home after the tornado touched down nearby.

It appeared at first that just the roof was damaged due to the strong winds from remnants of Hurricane Ida, but as homeowners began assessing the damage the house started collapsing more.

The homeowner told WUSA9 that the house will likely have to be demolished due to the damage.

The owner was not home when the storm hit the house and became aware of the damage when neighbors called him.

"I showed up and the rest of the neighborhood showed up at the same time," said the homeowner." It was like an awesome team effort."

The house was one of four homes in the cul de sac that was damaged in the storm.
