Latest Updates: DMV preparing another round of snowfall Monday

We're tracking the latest on winter weather in the DMV.

A winter storm has hit in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia region and will continue into Monday. 

Snow is accumulating on the ground across the region and we're expecting about three to six inches of snow to fall by Sunday evening.

For the D.C. metro area, the snow on Sunday will change to freezing drizzle, sleet, light rain by the evening. Areas north and west will get frozen precipitation before we transition back to snow on Monday.

We're tracking the latest snow accumulations and impact in the region. Here's what's going in our area:

Monday, Feb 1

4:15 a.m. -- Reports of slick spots and snow covered side streets early Monday morning. Road crews are out treating the roads.

Sunday, Jan 31

9:47 p.m. -- Amtrak will operate a modified service in the Northeast on Monday, Feb. 1 due to inclement weather to include:

  • Northeast Regional (Boston – New York – Washington, DC - Virginia) will operate on a limited schedule
  • Keystone Service (Harrisburg – Philadelphia – New York) will operate on a limited schedule
  • Empire Service (New York – Albany) will operate on a modified schedule
  • All Acela (Boston – Washington, DC) service is canceled
  • The Pennsylvanian (Pittsburgh – New York) is canceled

9:18 p.m. -- Prince George’s County Public Schools: virtual learning continues with a two-hour early dismissal for all students. All buildings are closed. Meal service and non-public transportation are canceled. Emergency personnel only should report to work with a two-hour delay. 

9:16 p.m. -- Below is a look at Virginia State Police's latest crash and disabled vehicle numbers for regions in the Commonwealth:

Richmond Division: 71 Disabled Vehicles & 117 Traffic Crashes

Culpeper Division: 30 Disabled Vehicles & 31 Traffic Crashes

Appomattox Division: 41 Disabled Vehicles & 39 Traffic Crashes

Wytheville Division: 39 Disabled Vehicles & 19 Traffic Crashes

Chesapeake Division: 47 Disabled Vehicles & 60 Traffic Crashes

Salem Division: 49 Disabled Vehicles & 52 Traffic Crashes

Fairfax Division: 44 Disabled Vehicles & 46 Traffic Crashes 

8:21 p.m. -- All public COVID testing sites will be closed on Monday, according to a Tweet from DC Mayor Muriel Bowser.

7:38 p.m. -- D.C. Public Schools will be closed for in-person learning on Monday, impacting what was supposed to be some students' first day back since the pandemic started.

5:32 p.m. -- Loudoun County Public Schools and Culpepper County Public Schools closed Monday amid winter weather that has impacted the region.

3:55 p.m. -- Clarke County Public Schools, Page County Public Schools and Warren County Public Schools will be closed on Monday due to regional winter weather.

3:19 p.m. -- Prince William County Public Schools and Frederick County Public Schools (Virginia) have closed school for Monday amid winter weather in the region.

3 p.m. -- A snowball fight has broken out among dozens of people on The National Mall!

2:40 p.m. -- Virginia State Police say they've responded to 40 crashes and 48 disabled/stuck vehicles since midnight Sunday in areas they patrol in Northern Virginia.

2:36 p.m. -- Culpeper County Sheriff's Office says they've responded to nine weather-related crashes with no injuries. They still ask that people avoid traveling if possible, and if that travel is essential, that it be done slowly and cautiously.

2:23 p.m. -- A tractor trailer has crashed on the Inner Loop of the Beltway. 

1:27 p.m. -- Here's a look at some sledding fun at Shepherd Elementary School. Look at them go!

12:49 a.m. -- Prince George's County is not reporting any major issues on the roads. Major roads and secondary roads have been treated, according to Paulette Jones, Public Information Officer for Prince George's County DPW and Transportation. The county is urging drivers to stay home if they can. Some drivers on the roads are interfering with snowplows.

12:19 p.m. -- Snow totals in the DMV region are climbing. The Staunton, Va. area is reporting up to 6 inches of snow.

11:56 a.m. -- D.C. is reporting two inches of snow as snowfall continues to pile up in the region.

11:43 a.m. -- Prince George's County has canceled all scheduled COVID-19 vaccine appointments for Monday due to inclement weather. Here's how individuals can reschedule.

11:31 a.m. -- WUSA9 Jess Arnold spotted someone bust out their skiing gear to ski on the National Mall in D.C.

11:09 a.m. -- A long line of almost 100 people are waiting to be vaccinated at a Senior Center on Alabama Avenue Southeast. WUSA9 Reporter Delia Goncalves said there was no social distancing.

11 a.m. -- About one to five inches of snow has accumulated in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia region. The Remington, Va. region has reported about 4.5" of snow with Clarksburg, Md. reporting just over half an inch. Click here for the latest information on snowfall totals as they come in.

10:48 a.m. -- A person was spotted kayaking in the snow across the Potomac River.

9:50 a.m. -- There is a long line stretching about half a mile outside of a Fairfax County COVID-19 vaccination site after the county announced that they will reschedule all vaccine appointments after 12:30 p.m. due to weather. 

9:34 a.m. -- Here's a look at the snow falling at the Washington National Cathedral.

9:26 a.m. -- Snow in Northwest D.C. has reached 1.6". Almost a half an inch increase from an hour ago.

9:12 a.m. -- A view of the snow at the boat docks in Annapolis. Docked boats and ducks look like they are covered in the snow.

9 a.m.-- Snow Emergency in effect in D.C. Here's what that means for parked cars.

8:28 a.m. -- There is about an inch of snow accumulation at the National Mall in D.C.

7:06 a.m. -- Some areas in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland are reporting more than an inch of snow accumulating. The Charlottesville area is seeing 1.4".

7 a.m. -- PGC Link in Prince George's County, Md. will not operate on Monday, and Tuesday due to inclement weather. Call-A-Bus will only provide dialysis trips on Monday. Non-medical trips will be canceled. Commuters will have to contact Call-A-Bus customer service line at 301-499-8603 to reschedule their trip. 

6:51 a.m. -- Several snow plows and salt trucks are out treating the roads in the DMV as snow continues to fall on the roads.

6:38 a.m. -- Dominion Energy is only reporting one power outage. Lineworkers and crews are geared up and prepared to respond to any outages during the snow story, Peggy Fox with Dominion Energy told WUSA9.

6:11 a.m. -- Metro announces that Metrobus will run on a moderate snow service plan Sunday. They said buses may detour depending on the weather. 

5:52 a.m. -- Some areas in Culpeper County, Virginia are already seeing up to 3 inches of snow on the ground.

4:55 a.m -- Downtown D.C. streets are getting little accumulation of snow. WUSA9 Reporter Zach Merchant noticed snow sticking on Independence Avenue.

4:08 a.m. -- Snow has started to fall and stick to the ground in the Northwest D.C. area.

3:56 a.m.-- Snow in Fauquier County, Virginia surpassed an inch early Sunday morning.
