Hypothermia Alert issued for DC due to windchill

The National Weather Service reports temperatures will be 32 degrees but will feel like 31 degrees due to wind chill.

WASHINGTON — Officials say the hypothermia alert in D.C. will begin at 7 p.m. due to cold temperatures.  

Residents are encouraged to stay inside or bundle up if planning to go out. Those who need help finding shelter may call 311 or 202-399-7093 for accessible shelter transport. For all animal emergencies, including pets left outside in extreme temperatures, call the Humane Rescue Alliance at 202-723-5730.  

Signs of hypothermia in adults, according to the CDC include: 

  • Shivering 

  • Exhaustion or feeling very tired 

  • Confusion 

  • Fumbling hands 

  • Memory loss 

  • Slurred speech 

  • Drowsiness
