ST. MARY'S COUNTY, Md. — The National Weather Service confirmed late Tuesday evening that three tornadoes touched down in southern Maryland as a result of Tropical Storm Isaias. Two tornadoes were spotted in St. Mary's County and one hit Calvert County.
Reports of damage were widespread in southern Maryland after Tropical Storm Isaias made landfall late Monday night in the Carolinas, and traveled up the East Coast producing winds over 70 mph.

Leonardtown, Maryland issued a 7-day State of Emergency and neighbors were in cleanup mode all afternoon, clearing tree debris and even a toppled RV camper, which flipped three times.
The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal crash where a large tree fell on top of a moving car in Mechanicsville. Police said the incident happened near Charlotte Hall Road off Route 5 in St. Mary’s County shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Firefighters said a tree fell on a car, trapping the driver inside, as authorities worked to clear the scene and free the driver for nearly two hours. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
While most of the DMV saw between 2 to 5 inches of rainfall in a span of hours, one part of St. Mary's County estimated 9 inches of rain before 9 a.m.
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative reported that more than 13,000 customers experienced power outages Tuesday morning in St. Mary's and Calvert counties.
High waters and flash floods washed out several roads, prompting multiple water reduces and forcing the closure of several main roads in St. Mary's County. Police believe a closure on New Market Turner Road between Rustin Family Lane and Delbrooke Road could last a couple days.
A bridge on Busy Corner Road in Leonardtown was destroyed altogether, and a road in Calvert County split apart due to heavy flooding, standing drivers on both sides of the dirt road.
NWS has not yet released information on the tornado levels experienced in either county, and said a "detailed report" would be issued Wednesday.
