Here's an early look at the Halloween weather forecast for DC

Admittedly, this is a very early look at what Halloween weekend weather could be.

WASHINGTON — With less than 10 days until Halloween, we wanted to give you all a preview of what the weather will be like.

As of this writing, Friday Oct. 22, most forecast data points to a seasonally average, cool and dry day for trick-or-treaters. Daytime highs on Sunday, Oct. 31 look to reach the low to mid-60s, with our current forecast of 65 degrees that afternoon under a dry and mostly sunny sky.

This would make our Halloween better than Halloween 2020, when we experienced high temperatures in the low 50s along with gusty winds.

The average high temperature for Halloween in Washington, D.C. is 64 degrees, meaning cool 50s are likely on the evening of Halloween. Sunset on Halloween evening is at 6:08 p.m.

The overall weather pattern points to the DMV being on the cool side of low pressure. This low pressure, called an upper level trough, will have just pulled through our region the days before the spooky holiday. This hopefully points to a dry and settled weather day for the region.

Sunday October 31st forecast high temperatures

Layers are always a good idea for the Halloween customs, especially for the little ones. If you’re celebrating Halloween the night before, on Oct. 30, the weather also looks dry and a bit chilly, with high temperatures forecasted to be in the lower 60s, with cool 50s by Saturday evening.

Looking back at the last five Halloweens in Washington, we've seen temperatures as warm as 77 degrees in 2019. But Halloween 2020 was a chilly 51 degrees.

This forecast will undoubtedly change some before the holiday, so stay with us for the latest weather forecasts.
