WASHINGTON — A hypothermia alert has been issued for Sunday night because of cold temperatures. The hypothermia alert is issued when the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasted temperature, including wind chill, is or will be 32 degrees F or below. Sunday's alert begins at 7 p.m. when wind chill will make it feel like 31 degrees.
Stay inside, bundle up if you go out, call 311 or 202-399-7093 for accessible shelter transport, and report animal emergencies to the Humane Rescue Alliance at 202-723-5730.
Signs of hypothermia in adults, according to the CDC include:
- Shivering.
- Exhaustion or feeling very tired.
- Confusion.
- Fumbling hands.
- Memory loss.
- Slurred speech.
- Drowsiness.
More sunshine is on the way for Monday but you will notice a bit of a chill in the air. Highs to start the week will only be in the upper 40s to low 50s.
We're already looking ahead to a storm system that will finally bring much needed rainfall to the region. Unfortunately, it will impact some holiday travel for those heading to their Thanksgiving destinations Tuesday into Wednesday.
