WASHINGTON — Colder air will rush in behind a strong cold front Wednesday setting the mountains up west of the divide for their big first snowfall.
Rain changes to snow by 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Snow tapers off by Thursday morning but then really picks up by noon Thursday. Snow will continue, heavy at times through Friday into Saturday.
Winds will also be a factor with gusts over 40 mph. Blizzard conditions are possible with visibility below 1/4 mile.
Anyone traveling west of I-68 should plan on heavy snow and slick roads after the crossover of Savage Mountain on Thursday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.
WISP ski resort in Garrett County, Maryland will see at least six inches of snow by Saturday morning. Farther south, in Davis, West Virginia Timberline will see 12 - 18"!
