ARLINGTON, Va. — After the DMV saw its first measurable snow in two years on Monday, passengers traveling through Reagan National Airport had to contend with hundreds of flight delays, diversions and cancellations, leaving people stressed out and stranded.
But for many of them, the headache isn't over: they are still waiting to be reunited with their luggage.
On Wednesday morning, WUSA9 witnessed more than 400 unclaimed bags filling the halls at DCA, mostly luggage leftover from Monday night, according to airport personnel.
Brad Drapeaux was one of the travelers whose plans got interrupted after his flight from Honolulu was delayed. When he finally got to JFK, he was delayed once again. He arrived in D.C. Tuesday night but not by plane. He rented a car and drove from New York to D.C.
“I had meetings last night I had to attend to and meetings this morning I’m missing to come pick up my luggage.” Drapeaux said Wednesday.
Michele Brandon also had no choice but to drive in. She was diverted to Nashville when her plane was covered in ice unable to take off.
“We said enough is enough is enough," she said. "We got a car and drove home."
Brandon was on the road back to D.C. with no clothes or toothbrush.
"I’m wearing whatever I could find and fit in," she said.
For those missing a suitcase or any luggage, the airport is advising you pick it up as soon as you can. The D.C. Metro region is expecting another round of snow Friday, so DCA would like to clear out the current round of bags before any new issues occur.
