WASHINGTON — Runners, get ready to take your mark for charity!
This Thanksgiving holiday, help raise funds for those in need by signing up for a fun run in the D.C. area. Whether you're a long-distance runner or just enjoy a long walk, there is a race for everyone to participate in.

DC:
America's Trot for Hunger at Freedom Plaza
- Check-in for SOME's 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger 5K is Thursday morning at 7 a.m., with the Little Turkey 1-miler beginning at 8:30 a.m., 5K waves beginning at 9:15 a.m., and 'Best Dressed Turkey' Competition beginning at 10:30 a.m.
- Family-friendly festival, music, activities, and live entertainment will wrap up by 11:00 a.m.
- Runners can either race in person or virtually.
- Registration starts at $65 per person for the in-person 5K and includes participation costs, packet pickup, snacks and drinks post-race, a finisher festival with live entertainment, giveaways, photos and more.
- Officials say the money raised from America's Trot for Hunger help benefit D.C. residents, including families and the elderly, by providing much-needed food, housing, access to healthcare, employment training, and long-term comprehensive substance use disorder treatment programs.
Maryland:
- The 19th Annual 5K Turkey Trot to benefit Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services (LARS) kicks off at 8 a.m. at McCullough Field on Thursday.
- Registration is $50 per person for the 5K run.
- Officials say LARS empowers individuals in need of food, housing, and financial assistance to achieve well-being, stability, and self-sufficiency.
- The 41st Annual Turkey Chase Race returns in person.
- Registration starts at $55 per person for the 10K or 5K.
- The charity run originated in 1982 in partnership with the YMCA Bethesda Chevy Chase and Bethesda Chevy Chase Rotary.
- This year's run will benefit children and families in the metropolitan area.
- Participants can choose to either run, walk, or bike different distances from now until Thanksgiving to participate in a virtual race.
Virginia:
- The 18th Annual Fun Run officially starts at 8 a.m. at Christ Church.
- Participants are encouraged to walk or run through the streets of Lyon Park and Ashton Heights to give thanks.
- Registration is $50 per person and $25 for children between the ages of 6 and 17.
- All runners will get an Arlington Turkey Trot cotton Tee and a timing bib.
- The annual race in the Del Ray neighborhood kicks off at 9 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
- Registration starts at $20 per person.
- The flat, five-mile course starts and finishes at George Washington Middle School.
- Registration starts at $35 per person for the 5K.
- The 10K begins at 8:15 a.m., 5K at 8:25 a.m., and the 2K at 8:35 a.m.
- Proceeds support Crossroads UMC, which provides financial assistance, goods, and educational services.
- Runners will take their mark for the 5K at 8:30 a.m. and the one-miler at 9:30 a.m. at the Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center in Manassas.
- Registration for the 5K starts at $40 per person and $15 for the one-miler.
- A portion of race proceeds will benefit Hero's Bridge, which serves elderly veterans of the World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars, bridging veterans to a better quality of life through age-specific and innovative programs.
- The 11th Annual Turkey Trot starts at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
- Registration for the four-mile run is $40 per person and all participants will get a commemorative t-shirt.
- Proceeds from the race will be donated to Britepaths (formerly known as Our Daily Bread). For over 30 years, officials say Britepaths has provided help and hope to struggling residents in the Fairfax County area.
- The Sunday before Thanksgiving there will be a race in Vienna starting at the fire department on Center Street South.
- Race day registration will be available at the fire department from 7 a.m. until 8 a.m.
- Registration starts at $40 per person.
- The James Madison High School Band will be hosting the 20th Annual Vienna Turkey Trot 5K/10K and Fun Run.
- All proceeds benefit the JMHS "Pride of Vienna" Band and the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.
