New LGBTQ+ bars coming to the District

Rush and Shakers will both open on 9th Street in Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON — Two new LGBTQ+ bars are expected to open up in the District by late summer, early fall.

Both Rush and Shakers will open their doors at 9th and U streets in Northwest, D.C.

The current owners of Dirty Goose, a local gay bar located in the heart of D.C.'s U-Street Corridor, acquired the space at 2014 9th Street in order to open their second LBGTQ+ bar called Shakers. The new bar, formerly Gaslight Tavern, Echo Park and Whitlow's, is set to open in mid-July.

Rush is set to open in September at 1923 9th Street, NW.

Both bars posted to newly made social media accounts to announce their openings in Washington, D.C.

A D.C. homeowner says the Pride flag outside his home has been vandalized twice this month.
