Officials urge D.C. residents to stay indoors this weekend over poor air quality and high temperatures.

WASHINGTON — With temperatures expected to remain in the high 90s throughout weekend, officials are urging D.C. residents to stay indoors.

Here are some activities that will keep you entertained all while you keep cool inside.

In addition to the extreme heat, D.C. area residents are also experiencing poor air quality due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.

Thursday, July 6:

Pure Poetry Live, 2221 Adams Pl, NE

Artists and supporters alike are coming together for an unforgettable open mic night at Karma DC in Northeast. 

Expect food, drinks and hookah.

Sign-ups for the open mic start at 6:30 p.m., when doors open. 

The Nod Presents: Game Night-ish, 2100 14th Street, NW

Saturday, July 8:

Sneaker Con, 801 Mount Vernon, NW

Kicking off Saturday at 12 p.m., for two full days, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center will be transformed into a playground for all things sneaker and streetwear-related.

Head to the convention center and check out over 400+ vendors buying, selling & trading this weekend.

Jazz in the Parks: Presenting Ben Williams, 1010 Butternut Street, NW

Starting at 5 p.m., the region's most acclaimed jazz musicians are getting together for a free concert series.

Jazz in the Parks is returning with a fourth, additional concert due to popular demand.

The free event kicks off with a children's performer followed at 6 p.m. by the headliners on Saturday.

Drunk Shakespeare D.C., 1100 13th Street, NW

Join The Drunk Shakespeare Society for an evening where the cocktails meet the classics. 

Set within a speakeasy located behind the Sage Theater, five fearless actors take on the classics after downing shots of various alcohols.

Desiree Dik will host a drag brunch Sunday morning at Red Bear Brewing in Northeast D.C. starting at 11 a.m.

Tickets start at $25 per person and include two free drinks.
