WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Better days are coming, and they are called: Saturday and Sunday.

Our list of free and cheap things to do in the city this weekend has something for everyone.

You can dance the night away while listening to your favorite punk classics at Emo night on Saturday and then refuel your soul with a yoga class + sound bath on Sunday.

Thursday, September 14:

Trivia Night at Metrobar, 640 Rhode Island Avenue NE

  • It's Trivia night Thursday at the outdoor bar in Northeast D.C.
  • Come solo or bring friends and put your knowledge to the test.

Films on the Green DC, 1900 Anacostia Drive Park Field 7 

  • On Thursday, the festival Films on the Green will hold a screening of the French film "Dancing the Twist in Bamako."
  • The event, originally planned for June 22, was postponed due to rain.
  • Tickets are free.
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on.

Secret Show at Room 808, 808 Upshur Street NW

  • From 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m., hear from a variety of surprise comedians at Room 808 in Northwest D.C.
  • The show is BYOB.
  • Tickets are $10 per person to attend.

Friday, September 15:

A Night At The Museum, 1901 Fort Place SE

  • Celebrate 56 years of community stories at the Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum on Friday with live music and mocktails.
  • The free event kicks off at 7 p.m. and runs through 10 p.m.
  • Guests are encouraged to wear sustainable fashion that represents the elements of the environment: Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind in celebration of ACM's 2023 theme "Our Environment, Our Future."
  • Registration is highly recommended.

Wunder Garten's 9th Annual Oktoberfest, 1101 First Street NE

  • The beer garden's largest event of the year kicks off Friday at 3 p.m. with the "Tapping of the Keg" and will feature four full weekends of fun.
  • Expect German food, live bands, Bavarian games, DJ parties, contests to win cash prizes and a lot of beer.
  • Guests are encouraged to wear traditional German fashions, Lederhosen & Dirndl, for additional chances to win prizes.

Saturday, September 16:

Emo Night at Public Bar Live, 1214 18th Street NW

  • It's time to dust off those band tees and break out those checkered vans, it's Emo Night at Public Bar Live.
  • From 10 p.m. until 2:30 a.m., dance the night away to the best saddest music that defined an era.
  • Tickets are $20 per person to attend.

H Street Festival, 800 H Street NE

  • From noon until 7 p.m., the H Street Festival returns to Northeast D.C.
  • The festival will span 12 blocks and feature more than 200 businesses, restaurants, community organizations, and vendors.
  • Enjoy live music, drinks, food, contests, kids' activities, and more.

Howard Hampton Alumni Friends Tailgate + Party, 640 Rhode Island NE

  • The block party will take place at the outdoor bar in Northeast immediately following the football game.
  • The tailgate will feature DJs, cocktails, food trucks, and conversations with Howard and Hampton alumni and friends from across the country.

Sunday, September 17:

Crafternoons @ Georgetown, 1304 Wisconsin Avenue NW

  • From noon until 3 p.m., head to Shop Made in DC in Georgetown for an afternoon of free crafting.
  • Residents are encouraged to bring their own projects or to come out and start a new one at the store.
  • There will be a variety of art supplies on hand for residents to craft with.

Yoga + Sound Bath at the Spy Museum, 700 L'Enfant Plaza SW

  • Enjoy sweeping views of the Southwest waterfront will taking this instructor-led yoga class at the Spy Museum from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
  • The yoga session will be accompanied by Mel's blissful sound bath, which will include an extra-long restorative savasana.
  • Tickets are $30 per person and include the yoga+sound experience and a 20% discount at the gift shop.
