WASHINGTON — Local airports saw delays and cancellations Saturday after a sudden onslaught of winter weather.
The powerful, late-winter storm combined rivers of moisture and frigid temperatures, forecasters said, dumping snow from the deep south all the way north to the Canadian border.
According to the flight traffic tracker FlightAware, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington saw the most disruption, at more than 200 cancellations by 4 p.m. Saturday. They had 173 flights delayed. Dulles International Airport saw just over 30 cancellations, however, more than 200 have been delayed. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport had more than 50 cancellations, as well as more than 200 delays.
The BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport winter weather team announced Saturday morning that their team is working around the clock over the weekend to keep runways, taxiways, roadways and parking lots safe.
