Water main break leaves gaping hole in Knowles Ave. in Kensington

The road was back open in both directions over the weekend.

KENSINGTON, Md. — A road collapsed in Montgomery County on Saturday due to a water main break. Emergency repair work has closed a portion of Colesville Road. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes. 

On Saturday, Montgomery County Police shut down the road in both directions at 1:45 p.m. Montgomery County Fire and WSSC Water arrived at the scene at 3:30 p.m., then tweeted out that Knowles Avenue in Kensington, Maryland would remain closed. 

The water main break caused extensive damage to the road. 

A large hole could be seen in the middle of the lane along Knowles Avenue between Beach Drive and Weymouth Street.
