WASHINGTON —
Interstate 270 was briefly closed during the afternoon rush hour Monday after a severe storm knocked down trees and wires between Clarksburg (Exit 18) and Hyattstown/109 (Exit 22).
By about 4:45 p.m. the road had reopened, however delays were impacting traffic on both sides.
MATOC said in a tweet the northbound delays started after Middlebrook Road (Exit 13.) Southbound delays started at MD-80 (Exit 26/Fingerboard Road).
Officials said a tree hit a Potomac Edison power line that fell on both sides of I-270.
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued Monday until 10 p.m. for the D.C. metro east of the Blue Ridge.
