VDOT works to improve pedestrian safety at intersection of Telegraph Road, Hayfield Road

Transportation officials are hosting a virtual meeting with the public Monday.

FRANCONIA, Va. — Virginia Department of Transportation officials want to hear from you. VDOT is holding a virtual meeting Monday to discuss potential improvements to a specific intersection in the Franconia area. 

The 7 p.m. meeting will discuss planned improvements at the intersection of Hayfield Road (Route 635) and Route Telegraph Road (Route 611) to improve pedestrian and driver safety. 

The project includes:

  • Revised Intersection Improvements – Revising the proposed pedestrian improvements from the early 2023 online survey to reduce right of way and utility impacts; reducing crosswalk length and making Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramp upgrades
  • Pavement Marking Modifications – Relocating the crosswalk between Hayfield Secondary School and Hayfield Elementary School, adding Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons and providing pavement marking modifications along Telegraph Road between Broadmoor Street and Hayfield Road

Those wishing to attend the meeting must register here beforehand. Neighbors can participate by phone in listen-only mode, dial 877-309-2074 (use access code 644-337-477). The project team will make a presentation beginning at 7 p.m. and answer questions after the presentation. In case an alternate date is needed, the meeting will be held Aug. 12 at the same time.
