Tractor trailer crash delays morning commute on Route 50 in Prince George's County

Westbound lanes of MD-50 in Prince George's County were closed for several hours Tuesday morning.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — An overturned tractor trailer caused lane closures on Route 50 in Prince George's County during Tuesday morning's commute. The crash was first reported around 4:30 a.m. just past MD-197.

Maryland State Police responded to a report of a crash early Tuesday, and found a tractor trailer had overturned. Troopers said the truck driver lost control and was struck by another vehicle. Troopers said both drivers were taken to the hospital for evaluation but are expected to be OK.

All westbound lanes were blocked for several hours while investigators worked to determine what led to the crash, and move the overturned trailer out of the road. Detours were put in place, but delays were building throughout the morning.

By 6:30 a.m., one lane was reopened to traffic, and delays began at MD-3/US-301. As of 7 a.m., the tractor trailer had been righted, and moved to the shoulder the road. Traffic was moving slowly past the crash scene. Residual delays remained by 7:30 a.m.
