WASHINGTON — DC police and firefighters are responding to a crash in Southwest, D.C. A tractor trailer struck a bridge and is wedged underneath it near the intersection of Maine Avenue and Independence Avenue near the Washington Monument. The intersection is closed for the crash investigation.
Authorities were called to the area around 9:30 a.m. Firefighters say damage to the bridge appears cosmetic, but a team was called in to investigate any structural concerns. The team confirmed there was not structural damage to the bridge.
No injuries were reported and there are no reports of a fuel spill.
Drivers in the area are advised to use alternate routes. It's unclear when the intersection will reopen to traffic.
