School bus driver taken to hospital after head-on crash with sedan

The sedan's driver ran after the crash and has not been found.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A head-on crash involving a car and a school bus on Suitland Road the bus driver and an aid to the hospital Thursday morning. 

Prince George's County Police (PGCPD) and firefighters were called to the 4600 block of Suitland Road between Shadyside Avenue and Rose Park Drive for a reported crash. Once on scene, firefighters found the bus on fire and extinguished the flames. 

Officers say the bus was taking five students to a county elementary school when the crash occurred. All five children were evacuated from the bus. They were checked at the scene and found to be okay. 

The bus driver and an aide were taken to an area hospital and are expected to be okay. 

Police say the driver of the sedan ran away after the crash and has not been found. No suspect information has been released. 

Prince George's County officers are still investigating the cause of the crash. Right now, roads in the area were closed due to the investigation.
