LAUREL, Md. — Drivers who use Baltimore Avenue (Route 1) in Laurel should expect a slow morning commute Thursday. A water main break first reported around 3 a.m. is expected to keep lanes of the road near Cherry Lane, right outside Pearle Vision, closed for several hours while repairs are completed.
Two northbound lanes were closed before Domer Avenue at 5 a.m., according to the Maryland State Highway Administration. Traffic is getting by the scene, according to traffic officials, but delays could be lengthy. Traffic officials say the closure could last into the afternoon Thursday.
WUSA9's traffic specialist Lindsey Nance recommends using I-95 Northbound or Baltimore Washington Parkway as potential detours.
The cause of the water main break is still under investigation. Additional details are not immediately available.
