The person killed has not yet been identified.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A massive multi-vehicle crash in Silver Spring on the inner loop of I-495 has left one person dead and caused major backups early Wednesday morning.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to the inner loop between Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue around 2:45 a.m. after a report of a crash with entrapment.

One of the vehicles was also rolled on its side.

Seven people were treated for their injuries at the crash site. Included in that total is one person who was trapped and extricated, and another who died, according to fire department spokesperson Pete Piringer. No information has been released about their identity, this includes their name, age, and where they are from.

A preliminary investigation by Maryland State Police troopers found a 2005 Honda Accord struck a 202 Jeep Wrangler and a 2007 Honda Civic while entering a !-495 off a ramp from southbound Georgia Avenue.

The drivers of all three vehicles and two passengers in the Civic were taken to the hospital. The person who died was a passenger in the Accord, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Maryland State Police..
