SILVER SPRING, Md. — Traffic was backed up Monday during the morning rush hour due to a police investigation near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Sligo Drive in Silver Spring. Roads had reopened and the incident was cleared by 11:28 a.m. Monday.
According to Montgomery County Police, officers were sent to the 8000 block of Georgia Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Once on scene, they found a man dead. His death is being investigated as a homicide, and police closed several roads in the area
Initially, all lanes in both directions on Georgia Ave. were blocked due to the police activity, with officers saying the delays could last hours. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
By 9 a.m. only one northbound lane had reopened.

- From Bethesda or Rockville heading south: Take Colesville Rd.
- From Bethesda or Rockville heading north: Take University Blvd. to New Hampshire Ave
- From Laurel or College Park heading west: Take Colesville Rd, New Hampshire Ave or University Blvd.
