WASHINGTON — The highly anticipated National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Thursday in D.C., bringing with it holiday cheer and increased traffic restrictions to the downtown area.
The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation have issued a traffic advisory detailing road closures and parking restrictions to ensure the safety of attendees and the smooth operation of the event.
From 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., several streets will be designated as Emergency No Parking zones. Motorists are advised to avoid parking in these areas to prevent ticketing and towing. The affected streets include:
- 17th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
- Constitution Avenue from 18th Street to 14th Street, NW
- 15th Street from F Street to Constitution Avenue, NW
Traffic will be prohibited on multiple streets from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The following streets will be closed:
- 17th Street from H Street to Independence Avenue, SW
- C, D, E, F, and G Streets between 17th Street and 18th Street, NW
- New York Avenue between 17th Street and 18th Street, NW
- Constitution Avenue from 18th Street to 14th Street, NW
- 15th Street between F Street and Independence Avenue, SW
- Pennsylvania Avenue/E Street between 14th Street and 15th Street, NW
Drivers should anticipate delays in the area of the National Christmas Tree Lighting as well as more people walking around.
