TRAFFIC ALERT | Road closures for 2024 IMF, World Bank annual meetings in DC

WASHINGTON — Drivers and residents in Washington, D.C., should prepare for significant road closures and parking restrictions as the city hosts the 2024 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings. The event will take place from October 20 through October 26, and will lead to various traffic disruptions in the area.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has issued a traffic advisory with details on street closures and emergency no parking zones during the event. 

Here’s what you need to know:

Emergency No Parking zones

From Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. through Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., the following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking:

  • H Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to 20th Street, NW
  • 19th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to G Street, NW
  • Pennsylvania Avenue from 19th Street to 1924 Pennsylvania Ave, NW (south curb only)
  • G Street from 18th Street to 20th Street (north curb only)

Full street closures

Drivers should also take note of full street closures during key points of the meetings:

  • From Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. to Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., H Street between 19th and 20th streets NW will be closed to all traffic.

  • Starting Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. until Oct. 25 at 8 p.m., these streets will be closed:

    • H Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to 20th Street, NW
    • 19th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to G Street, NW
  • From Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. to Oct. 25 at noon, the following streets will also be posted as Emergency No Parking:

    • 17th Street from C Street to D Street, NW (west curb lane)
    • 18th Street from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW
    • D Street from 18th Street to 17th Street, NW
    • C Street from 18th Street to Virginia Avenue, NW

Important reminders

  • Expect parking restrictions throughout the event. Cars parked in violation of emergency no parking signs will be ticketed and towed.
  • Consider using alternative routes to avoid potential delays in the affected areas.
  • Pedestrian traffic is expected to increase, so motorists should proceed with caution in the area of the event.
