MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A portion of Interstate 270 will be shut down for days as crews work to fill a large hole in the roadway.
According to a tweet from the Montgomery County Department of Police, the 25-foot wide hole was discovered in the two outside lanes of Southbound 270 just before Exit 9 to Interstate 370.
Crews will need to close the two lanes and the right shoulder until at least Monday, June 20, as crews work to fix the damaged roadway.
Officers encourage drivers to find alternate routes and to expect delays in the area.
Maryland State Police say the sinkhole is a result of a broken six-foot drainage pipe. The State Highway Administration is working to get contractors to come and repair the large hole.
