Woodbridge man dead after being hit by a car on Jefferson Davis Highway

The victim was identified as 43-year-old Robert Paul Lee King.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A man is dead after he was hit by a car on Jefferson Davis Highway early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. on Route 1, Jefferson Davis Highway and Cardinal Drive, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

An investigation revealed that that the driver of a 2011 Infinity G37X was traveling northbound on Jefferson Davis Highway approaching Cardinal Drive when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was on the highway and not in a crosswalk, police said.

The driver drove to a nearby business and called police. The pedestrian, later identified by police as 43-year-old Robert Paul Lee King, of Woodbridge, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe King may have already been on the ground in the road when he was struck by the Infinity. However it is not clear whether was struck by another vehicle, according to police.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them.

Jefferson Davis Highway was closed in both directions for several hours during the investigation, but has since reopened.
