The crash happened on southbound Georgia Avenue and Mason Street Friday morning.

WHEATON-GLENMONT, Md. — A pedestrian has what police describe as traumatic injuries after they were hit by a car on southbound Georgia Avenue and Mason Street in Glenmont Friday morning.

Police were called to the scene just before 11 a.m. Friday. Southbound Georgia Avenue was closed at Randolph Road while police conduct their investigation of the crash.

Details about what led to the crash have not yet been released. The striking vehicle remained on the scene. The victim has been identified as an adult female. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

This is the sixth pedestrian-involved crash in Montgomery County in a 24-hour period.

Police responded to five pedestrians hit by cars over the course of four hours Thursday night. None of the pedestrians in those incidents had life-threatening injuries, investigators said.
