Pedestrian dies after being hit by tractor-trailer on Route 50

Police say the man killed was identified as Maurice Logan Mitchell. Mitchell was considered a suspect in a stabbing in Annapolis earlier in the day.

BOWIE, Md. — A person died after being hit by a tractor-trailer on Route 50 in Bowie Monday afternoon.

According to Maryland State Police College Park Dispatch, officers were called to an accident on Route 50 at Enterprise Road around 4:15 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a person who had been hit by a tractor-trailer in the eastbound lanes. The pedestrian was later identified as Maurice Logan Mitchell, 42, of Annapolis, Maryland.

Maryland State Police said Mitchell was taken to UM Capital Region Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer remained on the scene.

Upon further investigation, troopers learned Mitchell was considered a suspect in a stabbing which happened earlier in the day in Annapolis. The Annapolis Police Department is investigating the stabbing.

Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to investigate the crash. Route 50 was partially closed for about four hours following the crash. Additional details were not immediately available.

The crash happened on Feb. 8 in East Baltimore. The crash killed a pedestrian and buried two cars in bricks from a collapsing building after the crash.
