FAIRFAX, Va. — A multi-vehicle crash caused major delays on westbound Interstate 66 in Fairfax County Wednesday morning, according to the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Corporation (MATOC).
The crash happened along I-66 at Virginia Route 123 near Exit 60, police said.
As of 7:30 a.m., all lanes were reopened after crews shut down three lanes due to the collision.
Delays were seen building up starting from the Capital Beltway following the lane closures, officials said.
There are injuries due to the collision, officials said.
The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time. Police have not released information on the number of vehicles impacted.
Crews are at the scene investigating.
Around 5 a.m. Wednesday, in a separate incident, one person was killed after a single-vehicle crash on Route 124 in Gaithersburg, Md., Montgomery County Police said.
The collision happened in the area of Woodfield Road and Garfield Drive on Route 124 around 5:04 a.m., police said. Montgomery County Police and Collision Reconstruction Units responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
