LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — The best could be yet to come for some lucky Metro riders as a contest is allowing people to relive their best moments to win a Silver Ticket that will grant them a one-of-a-kind ride on the new Silver Line Extension.
Passengers will be able to hop on the metro on Nov. 15 around 2 p.m. and enjoy the highly-awaited stops that will allow access through Loudoun County including a ride to Washington Dulles International Airport. But, before that, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will be kicking off the day with a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting at the airport-based station.
Customers will have the chance to join the celebration by sharing their happiest Metro moment for a chance to get their hands on a 'Silver Ticket' to join Metro General Manager Randy Clarke and other officials. The ticket will allow winners to receive a special preview train ride on opening day before passenger service begins.
To enter for a chance to win, riders can share their favorite memories with Metro on social media by tagging on Twitter (@wmata), Instagram (@metroforward), and on Facebook (@Metro Forward) and using #YourMetroMemory. Customers can also email Metro at csvc@wmata.com with the subject line: Silver Ticket Metro Memory.
People hoping to win the Silver Ticket must submit their entry by 5 p.m. on Nov. 10. Metro will notify people by noon on Nov. 14 of the results. There will be 50 customers plus a guest who will be selected to receive a 'Silver Ticket' departing Wiehle-Reston East at 1:15 p.m. direct to Ashburn where the train will officially begin passenger service.
The Silver Line Extension is expected to provide more frequent service and increased capacity for people traveling to the airport. Customers headed to Dulles Airport will be able to get there in 10 minutes from Ashburn, 12 minutes from Wiehle-Reston East, 26 minutes from Tysons and 53 minutes from Metro Center in Downtown D.C., according to Metro.
