Good news Metro Red Line riders!

Hint: A station is opening sooner rather than later.

WASHINGTON — We have good news for anyone who takes Metro's Red Line. One station is opening ahead of schedule.

On Friday, the Takoma Metrorail Station is reopening to riders, two days ahead of schedule.

This reopening comes after the station was shut down for construction.

While under renovation, significant improvements were made, including the rebuilding of the interlocking section between Fort Totten and Takoma. This upgrade resolves previous drainage issues, involving the replacement of tracks, refurbishment of the track bed, and installation of new ballast and ties. Additional enhancements such as brighter platform edge lighting, updated communication systems, and removal of overgrown vegetation along the tracks have also been completed.

Riders will also notice new digital displays that are easier to read, showing real-time train arrival and other service updates that are currently being implemented.

The Red Line from Glenmont to Takoma will still be under construction through Aug. 31. Shuttle buses replace train service. Shuttles will still serve Takoma for customers who need to access the station from the north.
