Arcing insulator sparks Metro slowdown on the Red Line

Metro says repairs have been made and service was returning to normal by 10 a.m.

WASHINGTON — Heads up, Metro riders. A track problem at the Van Ness Metro station slowed Wednesday morning commute.

Around 9 a.m., Metro said Red Line trains were not running between Friendship Heights and Cleveland Park because of an arcing insulator at the Van Ness station. As a result, the Tenleytown and Van Ness stations were closed while the problem was addressed. Just before 10 a.m., Metro said workers had repaired the insulator. Residual delays are possible.

Metro said shuttle buses have been established and some trains are running at Farragut North and Takoma to minimize congestion.

X user Annie Seelak expressed frustration about the delays.
