WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after someone jumped onto the back of a Metro railcar Monday morning.
According to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Metro Transit Police Department learned of a person trespassing on the outside of a train car at McPherson Square. When officers arrived, they attempted to find the person but the trespasser had already left.
A photo shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows the person clinging to the back of the Silver Line rail car.
"Riding outside of a train car is dangerous, illegal, and very likely to result in serious injury or death," WMATA said. "Depending on the location and circumstances, the offender could be charged with trespassing /unlawful entry and/or disorderly conduct impeding a public conveyance."
Anyone who witnesses similar acts or other suspicious behavior is asked to notify the train operator using one of the call buttons located on every rail car. Riders can also reach out to the Metro Transit Police Department at 202-962-2121.
