Metro services changes for Thanksgiving Day

WASHINGTON — Metro riders should plan ahead for travel on Thanksgiving Day, as the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will operate on a reduced schedule. Metrorail and Metrobus services will follow a Sunday schedule, while MetroAccess will require separate reservations for trips.

Here’s what riders need to know:

  • Operating hours: 7 a.m. to midnight.
  • Train frequency:
    • Red Line: Trains every 10 minutes.
    • Blue, Silver, and Orange Lines: Trains every 15 minutes.
    • Yellow and Green Lines: Trains every 8 minutes.
  • Riders can check first and last train times at wmata.com/stations.
  • Schedule: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.
  • Route Details: Service varies by route; riders are encouraged to check timetables at wmata.com.
  • Subscription Trips: Automatically canceled for Thanksgiving.
  • Reservations: Required for holiday travel and can be made online or by calling 301-562-5360 (TTY 301-588-7535).
  • Parking: Free at all Metro-owned lots and garages.
  • Fares: Normal weekday fares will apply.

Metro also offers convenient access to transportation hubs for those traveling over the holiday weekend.

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport: Accessible via the Blue and Yellow lines.
  • Washington Dulles International Airport: Accessible via the Silver Line.
  • Amtrak Connections:
    • Red Line: Union Station, Rockville.
    • Orange Line: New Carrollton.
    • Blue Line: King St-Old Town.
