Metro service suspended on some Blue, Yellow Line stops

Metrorail customers will see nearly normal train service starting Monday.

WASHINGTON — Metro services have been suspended on the Blue and Yellow Line Sunday in some areas. Officials say train services are suspended between Braddock Road and National Airport due to a problem at Potomac Yard.

Shuttle buses have been requested.

Metrorail customers will see nearly normal train service starting Monday. However, Blue and Yellow line trains will depart every 15 minutes while work continues to repair tracks damaged in Friday’s derailment.

WUSA9 previously covered a train derailment on the Blue Line on Friday. A Blue Line train derailed outside Reagan National Airport causing delays and single tracking.

WMATA said it happened around 10 a.m., causing Yellow and Blue Line service between Potomac Yard and National Airport to be suspended. WMATA said no injuries were reported, and all 43 passengers on board were safely evacuated and transferred via shuttle to another train.

According to Metro CEO Randy Clarke, who spoke with reporters Friday, a 7000-series train derailed after hitting a 20-inch diameter object on the tracks that fell from an earlier 3000-series train, possibly from part of a brake assembly. That would not affect the braking for the entire train, Clarke said. The front axel of the front car lifted from the track after hitting the object causing the derailment.
