Man struck, killed by train near Reston Town Center

A service disruption was first reported around 9:45 a.m.

RESTON, Va. — A man was struck and killed by a train near Reston Town Center on Monday morning, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said.

Train service was initially suspended at Reston Town Center after the man's body was found on the tracks, and then train service was also interrupted at Herndon.

The service disruption was first reported around 9:45 a.m. Silver Line trains were single tracking Herndon and Wiehle-Reston East, but then train service was suspended altogether.

WMATA later tweeted that police found a body on the tracks.

"Police have determined a person was trespassing on the tracks before being struck and killed by a train. Trains are no longer single tracking btwn Ashburn/Innovation & Largo/Wiehle. Service is still suspended at Reston & Herndon. Follow @metrorailinfo for updates. #wmata"

WUSA9 has reached out to investigators for more information but have not heard back. No other information has been released.

Shuttle buses were put in place for the impacted stations.

Service appears to be returning to normal.
