Several Metro stations closing this holiday weekend

Here's what riders need to know.

MARYLAND, USA — If you're planning to use Metro this weekend, here's what you need to know.

Due to planned maintenance, parts of the Red Line will be closed, and shuttle buses will replace trains at certain stations. Additionally, Metro will operate on a holiday schedule on Monday for Indigenous Peoples' Day and Columbus Day.

Red line closures:

From Oct. 12 through Oct. 14, four stations on the Red Line will be closed for maintenance:

  • Shady Grove
  • Rockville
  • Twinbrook
  • North Bethesda

Metro crews will be working hard over the weekend, performing a range of tasks including switch replacement, vegetation removal, gate maintenance, and cable insulation testing. These repairs are crucial for keeping the system safe and reliable.

To help riders, local and express shuttle buses will replace trains between Shady Grove and Grosvenor-Strathmore. Be sure to plan for extra travel time, as shuttle buses may take longer than the usual train ride.

Orange and Silver Line impacts:

If you're traveling on the Orange or Silver Lines this weekend, expect delays too. Metro will be single-tracking trains between McLean/West Falls Church and East Falls Church on Saturday and Sunday as crews replace crossties, insulators, and repair fences.

Holiday schedule for Monday:

On Monday, Metro will run on a holiday schedule in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Columbus Day. Here's what that means for your commute:

  • Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight, operating on a Saturday frequency at all stations.
  • Metrobus will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule.
  • MetroAccess customers can make reservations for travel on the holiday, but regular subscription trips will be canceled.

As always, it's a good idea to check the WMATA website or Metro’s app for real-time updates and to plan ahead for your trip.
