Stabbing at Silver Spring Metro Station leaves contract worker injured

The victim, who has only been identified as a Metro contractor, was taken to an area hospital for help.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Police are investigating after a Metro worker was stabbed at the Silver Spring Station Wednesday evening.

According to the Metro Transit Police Department, MTPD and Montgomery County Department of Police, officers were called to the metro station around 5:30 p.m. for reports of a stabbing just outside of the station entrance. 

When officers arrived, they learned the victim was seriously injured after being stabbed in the arm. 

The victim, who has only been identified as a Metro contractor who works as a custodian, was taken to an area hospital for help. 

MCPD later arrested a person matching the stabbing suspect's description and identified him as 38-year-old Daniyom Tesfaye.

Tesfaye has been charged with first-degree assault. 

There is still no word on any possible motive or what may have happened in the moments leading up to the stabbing.
