Normal train service resumes after man stabbed multiple times at Metro Center

The suspect then threw the victim's bike onto the tracks, causing a train to crash into it.

WASHINGTON — A man was stabbed multiple times at Metro Center Station on Monday, and the suspect apparently tossed the victim's bike onto the tracks.

Around 12:40 p.m., officers with the Metro Transit Police Department responded to Metro Center for a report of a stabbing.

According to police, the victim and suspect were involved in an altercation. At some point, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times.

After, the suspect threw the victim's bike onto the tracks – causing an incoming train to run over it.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, but police said his injuries weren't life-threatening.

The suspect was detained, and crews worked to remove the bike from the tracks. Red Line trains single-tracked during the investigation and so they could remove the bike from under the train. Normal train service has since resumed.

Metro Center is WMATA's busiest train station.
