WASHINGTON — If you are planning to take Metro this weekend, prepare for delays on four of the six lines as maintenance repairs will impact parts of the Red, Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines.
According to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the maintenance work will be performed on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28. During this time, Red Line trains will single-track through work zones and shuttle buses will replace trains along segments of the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines.
The work along the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines is part of Metro’s Aerial Structure Rehabilitation Project and includes work to reinforce the structural integrity of the aerial structure outside Stadium-Armory, closing sections of track where the three lines split. Crews will also install radio and fiber-optic cables, and repair concrete grout pads which support the rails.
Each day the work zones and station closures will change on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines. On Saturday, the Deanwood, Minnesota Ave, Benning Road, and Capitol Heights stations will be closed. Free shuttle buses will run between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly/Addison Road.
All four stations will reopen Sunday; however, a segment of the Orange Line will remain closed between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Ave with free shuttle buses replacing trains between the two stations.
As for the Red Line, trains will single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights for tunnel leak mitigation, sealing up any water leaks within the work zone.
