WASHINGTON — A stabbing inside the District’s busiest Metro station shut down Union Station’s Red Line platform for hours Sunday, as police searched for two suspects in the murder of 20-year-old Anthony Williams.
Police announced the arrest of 23-year-old Angel Moses later in the afternoon, charging the suspect with second-degree murder. Authorities also arrested 29-year-old Edward Everstine, charging him with accessory after the fact.
The incident marked the first killing within the Metro system for 2020. But a review of WMATA crime data over the past five years shows homicides within the system are increasingly rare, with a high mark of five killings recorded in 2016.

Police investigated two stabbing deaths in Metro stations last year – the first in Potomac Avenue on April 28, and the second in Capitol South station on October 11. A 15-year-old died in the Capitol South case, with an accused 15-year-old girl now charged with first-degree murder.
A 40-year-old was robbed and fatally stabbed just outside the Potomac Avenue gates during the April attack, with an 18-year-old now charged with first degree murder.
WMATA spokesperson Ian Jannetta said the transit system could not comment on any possible security adjustments made in Union Station after Sunday’s incident. Police also reported the stabbing was not a random incident, but a fight between a homeless victim and someone he knew.
