Carly Rae Jepsen responsible for highest ridership at Navy Yard Metro since 2019

No maybes about it. WMATA saw 45,000 trips due to Jepsen's Nats Park show.

WASHINGTON — Carly Rae Jepsen is responsible for the highest ridership at one D.C. Metro station since 2019. That's according to WMATA, who shared on social media that the transit agency saw 45,000 trips at the Navy Yard station Friday.

The Grammy-nominated Canadian pop star was in town performing as part of the Washington Nationals summer concert series following a game at Nationals Park.

Jepsen rose to stardom behind her ubiquitous single "Call Me Maybe," released in 2011. Since then, she has released several more albums, including 2015's "Emotion," and 2022's "The Loneliest Time."

The 45,000 trips is the highest number of trips since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Metro says overall ridership is up since last year, but still has not reached pre-pandemic levels. Low ridership was one of Metro reasons faced a huge budget shortfall earlier this year before approving a $4.8 billion budget to keep services stable and avoid drastic cuts.

Leaders across the D.C. region have also been in talks recently to create a unified regional public transit system

The next summer concert series performance at Nationals Park will feature Teddy Swims on Aug. 9.
