WASHINGTON — The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is warning riders of track work and widespread street closures in D.C. this weekend that may result in delayed or interrupted service.
According to a release from WMATA, track work on the Red Line will affect two stations and road closures in downtown D.C. will cause detours to 24 Metrobus routes and restrict MetroAccess service in the area.
Red Line Track Work
WMATA says train service between Rhode Island Ave and NoMa stations will be shut down for the weekend. The loss of service will allow Metro to upgrade infrastructure, including the installation of new fiber-optic and radio cables for signal systems and emergency communications.
Metro assures riders that all Red Line stations will be open with trains running normal frequencies every 10 minutes on both sides of the shutdown. All other lines will run at normal frequencies.
Riders are urged to use the Green Line as an alternative when traveling to or from Downtown D.C. Customers can transfer to/from the Red Line via Fort Totten or Gallery Place.
Additionally, free shuttle buses will be available to connect customers between Rhode Island Ave and NoMa.
Metrobus and MetroAccess
Riders may see delays when trying to get to downtown D.C. due to widespread road closures during the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon and 5K on March 18, 2023.
According to a release from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the marathon and 5K will bring parking restrictions and street closures starting as early as Friday, March 17.
