COLLEGE PARK, Md. — While investigating a crash in Prince George's County, a trooper was injured after being struck by a different car while he was in his vehicle early Thursday.
A trooper, with the Maryland State Police's College Park Barrack, was in the area of the outer loop of Interstate 495, before Interstate 295, around 2 a.m. investigating a crash. Around this time, the trooper, who was in his marked patrol vehicle with the emergency lights on, was struck by another vehicle.
The vehicle struck the rear end of the patrol cruiser. The trooper was taken to University of Maryland Capital Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained. The severity of the injuries are unknown. Authorities did not say whether the driver of the striking vehicle stayed on scene.
No one else was injured in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
It’s Maryland law to move over when approaching ANY stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying warning signals. Violating the law is a misdemeanor carrying a $110 fine and one point on your license. If the violation causes a crash, the fine is $150 and three points. If there is a death or serious injury, the fine is $750 and three points.
