MARC train slams into vehicle at railroad crossing in Silver Spring

Several trains were delayed along the route due to the crash, officials said.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A MARC train crashed into an occupied car at a railroad crossing at Forest Glen Crossing Tuesday morning in Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said.

The incident happened at a railroad crossing on Forest Glen Road and Post Office Road near Seminary road, police said. 

A broken-down car was on the tracks when a MARC Brunswick Line Train struck the car.

The driver of the car was able to get out of the vehicle before the collision, police said. The driver was evaluated by EMS, but no injuries were reported, police said.

Train traffic was stopped along the route causing several MARC train delays:

  • MARC Brunswick Line Train is currently holding due to police activity at Forest Glenn Road
  • MARC 874 holding at Rockville
  • MARC 876 holding Germantown
  • MARC 892 holding at Rockville
  • MARC 872 holding west of Kensington
