Man in critical condition following overnight crash in SE

Fire officials say the man was pinned in the vehicle due to the impact of the crash.

WASHINGTON — A man is hospitalized with critical injuries following an overnight crash in Southeast D.C. 

DC Fire responded to the 1200 block of Southern Avenue Southeast around 12:46 a.m. for a reported crash. 

Once on scene, firefighters located the vehicle and discovered a man trapped inside. 

Due to the severity of the crash, crews worked diligently to safely extricate the man out of the vehicle. 

Preliminary investigations revealed the man was driving and for unknown reasons crashed into a pole.

Once safely removed, the man was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries. 

At this time officials say the man was the only occupant in the car and there were no other cars involved in the crash. 

At this time police investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
