WHEATON-GLENMONT, Md. — Police are searching for a driver wanted in a deadly hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that happened in Wheaton early Monday.
The Montgomery County Department of Police announced the crash on their X page, formerly known as Twitter, just before 12:30 a.m. on Monday. They stated that the collision resulted in westbound Veirs Mill Road closing at Monterrey Drive. The report of the crash happened around 12:02 a.m.
The road has since reopened, but at the time of the investigation there were significant delays in the area due to the closures.
The police department confirmed to WUSA9 that a pedestrian, solely described as a man, was killed in the crash. No details have been released about his identity, this includes his name, age, and where he is from.
Through an initial investigation, detectives say the man was riding a skateboard on Veirs Mill Road, just before Monterrey Drive, when he was hit by a white Acura TL. The vehicle was driving westbound, and the driver drove away from the scene.
Police are searching for the vehicle that they say is approximately a 2009 model. It should have damage to the front right corner, including a missing portion of the bumper cover and a missing or broken headlight, fog light and parking light. It may also have damage to the windshield and/or window.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at crunit@montgomerycountymd.gov or (240) 773-6620.
