SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — There are major backups on the highways in the DMV due to the messy and rainy morning commute Friday.
Lanes on southbound Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County were shut down due to a tractor-trailer crash-- including the entrance and exit ramps, VDOT said.
As of 5:30 a.m., the crash cleared and lanes were reopened following an hour of standstill traffic just past Spotsylvania Parkway near mile marker 130.3.
There were also delays on eastbound Interstate 66 at US Route 29 in Centreville due to a crash. The scene has since cleared as of 5:45 a.m, but delays remain.
A traffic jam is building on I-95 near the Triangle as the morning continues. The cause is unknown at this time.
A tractor-trailer crash on I-95 in Dale City near mile marker 155.7 in the County of Prince William County is also causing a backup. As of 7:40 a.m., this crash has been cleared.
In Maryland, the Inner Loop of the Beltway in Bethesda is backed up due to an overturned tractor-trailer crash at Maryland Route 187 on Old Georgetown Road. The crash is blocking the left side of the road.
A crash was also reported on the Inner Loop of I-95 between Exit 9 Allentownroad and Exit 7A/B in Prince George's County. Some lanes are closed in the area.
Drivers are urged to take caution during Friday morning's commute due to storms with heavy downpours. The heaviest and steadiest rain will fall Friday morning and could cause some flash flooding.
Flash Flood Warning has been issued Friday morning for parts of the DMV. Showers could get lighter and more spotty by the afternoon.
