Lanes reopen on Southbound I-495 after police chase

Several lanes of Interstate 495 SB were blocked after a police chase Friday evening.

FAIRFAX, Va. — A police chase in Fairfax County led to several lane closures on Interstate 495 on Friday evening.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers with the Tysons Urban Team noticed a car with a person inside just before 5 p.m. They say that person had an outstanding felony warrant related to an armed robbery.

When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, they say the driver took off. Officers chased after the suspect and the pursuit later ended on southbound I-495 south of Braddock Road.

The police chase caused several lanes to be blocked during rush hour. At one point drivers were delayed around 4 miles. All lanes reopened just before 10:15 p.m.

No officers were injured. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for injuries and is expected to survive.

No shots were fired but officers say they found a gun inside the suspect's car, along with narcotics and evidence of narcotics distribution.

The investigation is ongoing and no details have been released regarding the armed robbery police say the suspect was wanted in connection to.
