Tractor-trailer crash on EB I-66 caused major backup

Drivers can expect an over 2-mile pile-up on I-66 near the crash scene.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Lanes were shut down on eastbound Interstate 66 after a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on the roadway Monday morning, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).

The crash happened on eastbound I-66 just before U.S. Route 29, Exit 52 in Fairfax County, officials said.

One person was injured following the crash, but it appears the injury is not serious, VSP said.

As of 9 a.m., all lanes have since reopened after several lanes were shut down and one lane was open to cars near the crash scene.

SKY9 was at the scene and a tow truck worked to remove the impacted vehicle. Crews were also at the scene trying to reopen lanes.

Drivers experienced delays from Virginia Route 234 at Exit 47, Sudley Road. The backup stretched for about 2.5 miles, officials said.
